🚫 Reminder for All Support Workers: Stealing Participants is Serious Misconduct

At Made To Help, we are committed to the highest ethical standards under the NDIS Code of Conduct. All workers must act with integrity, honesty, and transparency when supporting participants.

πŸ‘‰ Attempting to β€œsteal” or poach a participant (encouraging them to leave our service to follow you privately or to another provider for personal gain) is considered serious misconduct and exploitation.

This behaviour is strictly prohibited under the NDIS and will not be tolerated.

What Happens If a Worker Steals a Participant

If we discover that a support worker has attempted to poach or exploit a participant:

  • The matter will be treated as a Reportable Incident.
  • It will be immediately reported to the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.
  • The Commission has the authority to investigate and take strong action, including:
  • Issuing banning orders
  • Cancelling the worker’s NDIS Worker Screening clearance
  • Permanently removing registration, preventing the worker from ever providing NDIS supports again

In Victoria, we may also report misconduct to the Victorian Disability Worker Commission, which can impose additional sanctions or deregistration.

How to Make a Complaint

Anyone (participants, families, workers, or providers) can report misconduct directly to the NDIS Commission:

  • Complete the online complaint form: NDIS Commission – Make a Complaint
  • Call: 1800 035 544 (free call from landlines) or TTY 133 677
  • Interpreters: can be arranged on request
  • National Relay Service: ask for 1800 035 544

βœ… Takeaway for Workers: If you ever attempt to steal or exploit a participant, you risk not only losing your role with us but also being permanently banned from the NDIS workforce.
